Hey squad,
It’s the second newsletter. Can it live up to the riveting first? Is it ‘Aliens’ or ‘American Psycho 2?’

Every Last One Issue 2 enters production
Scripting complete
I finally finished the draft of chapter 2. It went through about three drafts, in which major scenes got restructured. The drafting process can be really interesting this way. The general direction of the story remains the same but the journey to get there is vastly different than my first plot outline. This is due to ‘going with the flow’ – making changes that feel right when in the nitty gritty of scripting.
Having an amazing editor helps. Jack poked holes and questioned some of the scenes, giving his own suggestions as to how we can improve the story. I can’t emphasise enough how editors make your work better. Comics are best when everyone collaborates.
I’m now outlining the third and final chapter so it’s ready for art early next year.
Artwork begins
The wonderful artist Dani Coloma has begun art production. His thumbnails are great and he’s delivered the first page of pencils. Love it.

And while you’re there, check out my friend Amrit’s sensational-looking dark fantasy comic ‘Rid of You’ - which finishes in five days!
Thought Bubble 2024
I returned triumphantly to Thought Bubble in Harrogate this year with my business partner, Sha. Well, not quite triumphant - I showed up, had fun, bought books and then got out of dodge. It was my first time attending as a punter instead of exhibiting. I loved the freedom to enjoy myself and not worry about sales and logistics. I did go with business intentions, however. I met with the production team behind the super secret 144-page graphic novel adaption I started earlier this year.
I also went scouting for artists to work with on future projects. It always helps to plan in advance when it comes to creating comics, be it making new collaborators or teeing up pitches for the years to come. Overall, it was a fantastic con experience and talking with friends old and new was reinvigorating.
The mammoth work-for-hire projects creep to the finish line
Speaking (or typing) of the adaptation – I got the second draft over the line in November. It felt like the end of a marathon.
I also managed to dust off the second draft of the 44-page kids graphic novel.
All while writing three LEGO 12-page comics.
I’m dead. But we’re nearly done. Roll on Christmas.
On a personal note
I read Final Cut by Charles Burns and it was mesmerising. Stunning work.
I joined Bluesky and I’m kinda loving it so far. Follow me.
I continued my film-watching spree. Fireband was the highlight - Jude Law was amazing as a creepy gross Henry 8th. If Tudor survival horror is your thing, give this a go. Home Sweet Home Alone was the lowlight. Terrible. Why make the hero unlikeable and the bad guys relatable? Why?
I started the festive feeling yesterday by going to Winterfest with my son in Glasgow. We also picked out a real Christmas tree today - very wholesome.
Thanks everyone,
Gary
